Aida Amirkhanian
Intermediate Junior III
Aida has been studying and teaching yoga in the tradition of BKS Iyengar in Los Angeles area for many years. She is interested in both practical and philosophical aspects of yoga and their interconnectedness in the day to day practices. She continues her studies with senior teachers with great regularity. |

Marla Apt
Intermediate Senior I
Marla is on the faculty of the Iyengar Yoga Association of Southern California (IYASC) Teacher Training Program and has served as President of the Iyengar Yoga National and Southern California Associations. Marla spent a year studying with B.K.S., Geeta, and Prashant Iyengar in India and continues to study with the Iyengars annually. In addition to teaching full time in Los Angeles and abroad, Marla is a writer contributor to Yoga Journal magazine and has been involved with several medical research studies on yoga for the treatment of various health conditions. |

Jim Benvenuto

Jim has been teaching for over 20 years. He has been fortunate to study under the guidance of Faeq Biria and Manouso Manos and with the Iyengar family on numerous occasions in India. Jim has a methodical and strong teaching style, preparing his students to make the poses more accessible. |

Paul has been teaching in the Los Angeles area since 1991. After spending almost two years studying with the Iyengar family at their Institute in Pune, India, Paul has immersed himself in the study of yoga philosophy and teaches regular classes on Indian thought. |

Tracy Erickson

Having studied Iyengar Yoga for nearly fourteen years, Tracy values the opportunity to share some of the experience and the passion that she learned. She is able to bring a depth of professional experience to her yoga practice that that is both accessible and fun. In addition to her teaching, she is a licenseed practitioner in Nutrition Response Testing, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Acupuncture. |

Sue Garfield

Sue began studying Iyengar Yoga in 1985 and in 1989 her first class with Manouso Manos completely changed her life. A member of the IYASC's first Teacher Training Program, she has been teaching continuously at the Institute since 1994. Sue was a member of the IYASC board for 10 years, and its president from 1993-1998. |

Diane Gysbers
Intermediate Junior II
Diane Gysbers has been teaching Iyengar Yoga since 1990. In addition to teaching regular classes at the Institute, she has guided countless new mothers in pre and post-natal classes. Diane facilitates and teaches in the IYASC’s Teacher Training Program at the Institute and teaches out of her private studio in Venice, California. |

Larry Heliker

Larry Heliker started studying yoga in 1970 when he was twenty-eight and is a graduate of the Teacher Training Program of IYASC. He has traveled to study with the Iyengars in Pune and with Faeq Biria in France. He also studies with Manouso Manos in Los Angeles. Vladimir Jandov
Intermediate Junior I
Vladimir Jandov began practicing yoga at the age of 12 and has been a practitioner of Iyengar Yoga for over 13 years. At the age of 18, Vladimir traveled to India and spent a year studying the ancient vedic scriptures on yoga and philosophy of the Bhagavad Gita in an ashram and traveled throughout much of India. He has studied in Pune twice and is a dedicated student of Manouso Manos and other senior Iyengar teachers. Since he started teaching in 2002, Vladimir guides his students with enthusiasm and sensitivity for each person. |

Keri Lee

Before graduating from the IYASC Teacher Training Program, Keri taught dance and movement principles for over 15 years and performed in Broadway shows. She holds a BA in English. Her primary teachers are Marla Apt and Carolyn Belko and she looks forward to studying with the Iyengar family in Pune, India. The profound change she has experienced with her practice instills her teaching with clarity, warmth, humor and devotion. |

Garth McLean

Garth McLean is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher and an avid practitioner of the subject. A graduate of the IYASC Teacher Training program, he continues to study annually with B.K.S. Iyengar and family in Pune, India. He is a founding and current board member of the Iyengar Yoga Therapeutics group, a non-profit organization based in Los Angeles. Garth leads classes in Los Angeles and offers workshops on Iyengar Yoga worldwide. When not teaching, Garth can often be found getting lost in practice. |

Allen Mulch

Allen Mulch has been a student of Iyengar Yoga for 20 years, and a certified Iyengar instructor for 10 years. He has studied with the Iyengar family in India and the U.S., and has taught yoga throughout California. He believes everyone can benefit from yoga practice, regardless of age or ability, and he enjoys helping others understand how yoga can work for them. |

Koren Paalman
Intermediate Junior I
Koren began her journey of yoga while touring around India on a motorcycle from 1991-1993. When she returned she wrote her Master’s thesis on using yoga to teach English as a Second Language. In 1998 she started the first yoga program for credit in the Los Angeles Unified School District where she spent over ten years teaching two daily yoga classes as well as English, psychology and health. Since 2002 she has worked in India under the direct guidance of BKS Iyengar and his daughter Geeta for a month or two every other year. Her classes weave state of the art Iyengar instruction with enthusiasm and a sense of humor as she guides students towards a better understanding of themselves; body, mind and spirit. Besides teaching yoga Koren is a stilt performer and costumier. |

Jeff Perlman

Jeff started studying yoga in 1989 and found his home in the Iyengar system where the integration of mind, body and spirit had a profound influence on his awareness, presence of mind and ability to balance daily life. He is a graduate of the IYASC teacher-training program and has been teaching since 2006. He has studied twice with the Iyengar family in Pune, India and continues to study with senior Iyengar instructors. During his studies at the Iyengar Institute he developed an interest in Ayurveda (The Indian Holistic Medical System) and in 2010 graduated from the California College of Ayurveda in Nevada City, certified as a Clinical Ayurvedic & Pancha Karma Specialist with advanced accreditation in Pulse Diagnosis, Marma Therapy & Herbology. |

In the late 1980's Herb was introduced to the yoga of B.K.S Iyengar. Over the past two decades, as a student as well as a teacher, Herb has remained committed to the rigors of Iyengar Yoga. Ida Unger

began teaching yoga in 1988 at her home-based studio in Santa Monica, Yoga Garden Studios. It grew and thrived until it was closed in 2006, when there were 22 classes and eight teachers offering the best of Iyengar yoga in an inspired garden setting. She also taught at Santa Monica College, including Yoga for a Healthy Back (13 years), and since 1999 has taught nationally about the connections between yoga and Jewish spiritual practices. She studies with Manouso Manos, who has guided her practice for over twenty years. She spent a month of intensive study in Pune in 1999. Ida feels eternally grateful for the changes yoga has brought to her life and is honored to share this practice with all who want to live with more of themselves awake, alive and present. |

Lisa Walford

Lisa Walford has been teaching yoga in Los Angeles since 1982. She continues her studies regularly with the Iyengars. She is on the advisory board of the International Association of Yoga Therapists and the Yoga Studies program at Loyola Marymount University.
